Safeguarding at StepInJobs
At StepInJobs, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We know that many of our users are young jobseekers taking their first steps into the world of work, and we are equally committed to supporting employers in providing safe, fair, and positive opportunities. This page explains how we protect our users and what we expect from everyone using our platform.
Safeguarding for Young Jobseekers
Your safety matters most. StepInJobs is designed to give you access to genuine, safe opportunities with responsible employers. To help keep you safe:
- No fees: You should not be asked to pay for applications, training, uniforms, or job placements.
- Protect your information: Only share the details you need to apply (such as your CV). Do not share bank details, National Insurance numbers, or ID documents until you are formally offered a role and checks are required by law.
- Safe interviews: Employers should only interview you at a recognised business address or via secure video call. They should not ask to meet in a private home.
- Respect and fairness: You deserve to be treated with dignity. Discrimination, harassment, or unsafe requests are not tolerated on StepInJobs.
- Reporting concerns: If an advert, message, or employer makes you feel uncomfortable, please report it immediately to safeguarding@stepinjobs.com. We will take your concern seriously.
Safeguarding for Employers
We value the trust you place in StepInJobs to connect with young jobseekers. To create a safe and professional environment, we ask that all employers:
- Post genuine roles: Only advertise opportunities that are real, lawful, and compliant with minimum wage laws.
- Be clear and transparent: Job descriptions should accurately set out duties, hours, pay, and location.
- Use safe recruitment practices: Hold interviews in professional spaces or via secure video platforms, and avoid inappropriate or unsafe settings.
- Protect candidate data: Only collect information relevant to the recruitment process and handle it in line with UK data protection law.
- Foster respect: Treat all candidates fairly, without discrimination, and ensure your staff act appropriately throughout the hiring process.
Employers who do not follow these standards risk removal from the platform. In serious cases, we may report concerns to relevant authorities.
How We Safeguard
- Verification: Employers may be asked to confirm their business details before listings are approved.
- Monitoring: Job postings are checked, and suspicious or inappropriate listings are removed.
- Support: Young jobseekers are provided with safety tips and reminders throughout the application process.
- Reporting: Every job has a clear option for reporting concerns, and we respond quickly to all safeguarding queries.
