StepInJobs is a social enterprise helping young people connect with employers. At StepInJobs, we are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data in line with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The Data we collect
When you use StepInJobs, we collect a range of information to provide our services. This includes account data such as your name, email, password, and whether you register as an employer or a student. For students, we may collect profile data such as education details, skills, CVs or resumes, and your location or postcode. For employers, we collect company details including name, job role information, contact details, and any branding materials such as a logo. We also collect usage data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, along with any applications you submit or receive, which may include CVs, cover letters, and communication between candidates and employers.
How we use your data
We use your data to provide our services, which includes creating and managing accounts, posting jobs, and handling applications. This is done under the lawful basis of contract. We also use data to improve site security and prevent abuse, which falls under legitimate interests. In addition, we send service-related emails such as account updates under contract, and we may send optional job alerts or marketing communications where you have given consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Sharing your data
We only share your data with trusted service providers who support the delivery of StepInJobs, such as hosting providers, email delivery services, and analytics platforms. These providers act under our instructions and cannot use your data for their own purposes. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Retention
We keep account and profile data for as long as your account remains active. Applications are retained for up to 24 months unless you choose to delete them sooner, and security logs are stored for up to 12 months.
Your rights
You have a number of rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can request a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete your data, withdraw consent (for example, by unsubscribing from job alerts), object to or restrict how your data is used, and request that we transfer your data to another provider.
